Decolonising Therapy : With Kim @ Black Psychotherapy

      17th October 2025 @ 6PM UK, GMT.

      Description: Decolonising therapy

Kim is a trauma psychotherapist and Director of Black Psychotherapy, a mental health service providing decolonial, intersectional and anti-oppressive therapy to Black and racially minoritised communities, alongside justice and liberation-centred supervision, training and consultancy, to professionals across the health and social care sector. Black Psychotherapy operates clinics virtually and in community settings to end mental health stigma and address cultural barriers to seeking support. The team’s dedication to delivering excellent standards of care led to being nominated for Best Mental Health Service of The Year in 2024. Outside of Kim’s role within the service they research, dream and write about Afrofuturism, ecologies of liberation and the use of speculative practices for collective resistance. Kim's recently released podcast, 'My Mother's Trauma', offers a politicised perspective on how to break the cycle of intergenerational and ancestral trauma within Global Majority cultures.

We look forward to welcoming her at 6pm on 17th October and hope to see you there.

Once your core counselling training is complete, you might choose to specialise in a specific area, or maybe you've found a topic within the field that you'd like to study more or spend some time conducting your own research on.  If so, you can always continue your counselling studies to build up Guided Learning Hours - that is, hours you are taught by a tutor in class - and reach a higher level of membership with your chosen professional register, such as the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society.

We can offer Ofqual regulated Level 5 and Level 6 diploma courses and Level 5 Certificate short courses that can expand your knowledge and help you develop further counselling skills, as well as helping you gain more Guided Learning Hours towards a higher level of membership with your chosen professional register.
